Two Containers Through the Seasons

Since the purchase of these two beautiful all-weather pots, we have kept them freshly filled with seasonal color, using vibrant annuals and verdant foliage throughout the seasons.

Winter

The Beginning

Our first winter design included stems of Winterberry and Red Twig Dogwood, accented by a combination of upright and cascading evergreen boughs.

Spring

Spring was designed to last, beginning with Tulips, Phlox and Primrose, as well as packing in Dianthus and Alyssum for extended enjoyment.

By mid-June, the Dianthus took its turn in the spotlight.

Summer

By summer,  it was time for drought tolerant herbs. This mix featured:

  • Sage
  • Salvia
  • Drumstick Alliums
  • Lime Coleus
  • White Pentas
  • Trailing Calibrachoa

Fall

When we think of Fall porch containers, immediately ornamental Kale and Chrysanthemums come to mind. Fall is also a great time to appreciate Pansies again, as they love cooler temperatures. See them peeking out from under the kale?

Side Note:

To get us through the late summer drought, we supplemented a few Coneflowers in August and Asters in September.

Also, the client expressed an affinity for the Alyssum and Sage so we opted to leave both in and they thrived until frost!

Winter

To close out the season, we returned with Winterberry and evergreens, and this time we included a young Dwarf Leyland Cypress tree.

As always, the goal is to design for longevity, so these trees will remain as strong vertical elements in all of our seasonal updates going forward!

Thanks for reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey and feel inspired to have fun with your own containers. If you’d like a hand with the design and install, I would be happy to meet with you and discuss ideas!

We offer Seasonal Color as a service option in our Maintenance Agreements, which includes four installation updates throughout the year. We also offer one-time installations for existing customers. Click here to schedule your consultation!
